Maryland is a country of diversity as was evident even during the Civil War, when 62,000 Marylanders fought for the North and 22,000 fought for the South. Since then, there has been stream of settlers - Irish, German, Hungarian, Scandinavian and Russians as well as a steady flow of African-Americans which has made Maryland a state of multicultural diversities.
